The fate of that little girl, her unimaginable suffering and agonizingly slow death, affected me in so many ways. As a father of young children, as a Christian, as a man, all of those foundations were challenged, and some shaken, by the reality of what this male of the species did to a baby who would not go to sleep one night. I have experienced what it means to cry without being able to stop as a result, on a few occasions merely from changing my youngest girl's diaper at the changing table and having a sharp memory of how the girl was found in the snow. My faith was challenged severely, as I too just wanted him dead, without preamble, without tax payer moneys wasted. I too saw how he was not "insane" and clearly just wanted to sweep his daughter's corpse under the rug and get on with his liquor soaked existence. I just wanted to be shown which hole they dumped his worm food carcass in. That it has taken 3 years just to finally get to the jury selection process astounds me.

I can only hope that when it is finally formed, the jury consists of people who believe that there are absolute consequences for absolutely heinous choices a person makes. While it is his "peers" who will choose whether or not William Lorenzo Page will die, the decision to commit a crime worthy of death (and anyone who thinks leaving a child to freeze to death in the snow is not a crime worthy of death may have successfully dulled their consciences through amazing feats of mental dexterity and deluded themselves, but not me) was made by him already - he just had the poor taste to leave others to do the dirty work. He shirked that responsibility the same way he shirked the one that is the mantle of fathers everywhere. We protect our daughters from the thunder and the lightening. We are the one refuge they can run to when all others fail. IT WAS HIS JOB TO SUFFER FOR HER SAKE, TO PLACE HIMSELF IN HARM'S WAY IF NECESSARY TO PRESERVE THE LIFE OF THE DAUGHTER GOD GAVE HIM, AND INSTEAD HE DECIDED SHE NEEDED TO DIE, BECAUSE HE WAS DRUNK, AND WANTED TO GO BACK TO SLEEP.

Dude, seriously? What more is there to talk about, and when do we start to feel stupid for adding so much added complication to something so simple?

William Lorenzo Page has had three years to repent of the sodomy, beating, and death he gave to his baby girl - three whole years to change his life and give his soul to God. His carcass, however, belongs to the state of Pennsylvania. More aptly, the worms in Pennsylvania's earth that aid in the decomposition process. THAT is the price one must pay for torturing and killing your child. I would expect to pay it if it were me, we ALL know it is right and are mostly too full of crap to admit it, and folks need to just collectively get over themselves and wrap this up. This is NOT a story of a man incarcerated unjustly. This is something so blatantly, obviously wrong, and has gone on for SO long, it just needs to be done. The economy is too worn as it is to be supporting this sorry, inexcusable pair of clown shoes with free room and board like this.

And don't get it twisted. This is not someone calling for his blood. This is belief in consequence for the horrendous choices we make, that when those choices are irrevocable, destroy innocent lives, AND you did nothing but try to get away with it and pretend it DIDN'T happen, your own is forfeit. Simple. Uncomplicated. Get it straight. And for goodness sake, Pennsylvania, get it done right.
