with 4 comments

William Lorenzo Page is charged with assaulting, kidnapping and leaving his 23-month-old daughter, Nyia, to die in 8-degree weather in February 2007.

William Page reported his daughter missing from his Braddock, Pennsylvania home in the early morning hours of February 3, 2007 where he lived with his wife and other family members. During the course of the investigation Nyia’s brother indicated that he had been the victim of a sexual assault by William Page. At that point police took William Page into custody on that charge.

Nyia’s body was found by searchers on February 4, 2007 in an abandoned playground. She was not wearing any clothing from the waist down.

William Page finally made a full confession about what happened that night.

“The only witness to take the stand during Page’s preliminary hearing was Allegheny County Detective Robert Opferman, who told the court of a detailed confession given by Page in the days after Nyia was left outside in 7-degree temperatures. According to Opferman, Page admitted he awoke at 3 a.m. on Feb. 3 and went to the basement to drink a brandy. The detective said Page confessed that Nyia came downstairs without her diaper on and he became so frustrated that he kicked her between the legs. Then, according to Opferman, to stop the bleeding, Page admitted he penetrated the toddler with his fingers then wrapped Nyia in a blanket and took her outside.Opferman said Page considered dropping Nyia into a sewer before taking her to the woods behind Hawkins Village.According to Opferman, Page confessed that Nyia cried for 10 minutes before he left her there and went back to his Braddock home and back to bed.” [Source]

  1. “The prosecutor is seeking the death penalty in this case.”

That makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. I know it’s not right. I know I should feel ashamed of myself for daring to even contemplate supporting the killing of someone who murdered a 2 year old. But, as someone who has had to put down a dog or two, I know that sometimes it just has to be done. There’s nothing else that can cure that particular animal’s disease.

  2. As I sit and write this, I have tears in my eyes.

Why is this even going to trial? Why is it that someone will get more time in prision for beating there dog… Do we not hold the children of the world higher then ourselves, the adults that know better? Can we not help the future by acting in the present?

Commit an premetitated crime against a child that results in death – AUTOMATIC DEATH SENTENCE
(no trial or appeal, nothing but dead)

Just think if this were your daughter, relative or neighbor….

Angry will never describe how I feel about this and I don’t even know anyone involved, but I do have a three year old daughter that I would die to protect…

  3. I am also very heart broken about that poor innocent little girl. She wasn’t even a little girl she was still a baby! How someone could even consider hurting such an innocent life much less killing them is just not even imaginable to me. I hope this man actually gets killed in prison before he gets the death penalty and I hope he is made to suffer first! Sick bastard.

  4. I remember crying when I first read about this last year. It came right after the atrocity in NY regarding Nixmary Brown. There is a court session going on right now regarding her death, and it made me remember poor little Nyia Page. I hope her killer gets his. I won’t even refer to him as her father, because no real father would ever do that to his child. I hope we can get an update soon regarding this case.
